Needs an Intervention
That’s right, I said it. Someone had to say it.
Chelsea Handler needs an intervention…from work!
This past holiday weekend the comedienne made a first-time visit to the Hamptons and admitted, “I never get a break and that’s my own doing.”
Handler is one of the hardest working talk show hosts in the game. She’s currently on a 20-U.S.-city comedy tour and shooting several projects including: her hit talk show “Chelsea Lately;” NBC sitcom, “Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea;” an E Channel reality series; a feature film alongside Reese Witherspoon; and promoting her bestselling book, Lies that Chelsea Handler Told Me.
Apparently, Handler is so busy she even forgets some of the causes she supports.
When I asked Chelsea about her latest venture with FriendFactor.org, the Queen of sarcasm threw a question back at me, “What is my new venture—I don’t have one?” Well, Chelsea, according to FriendFactor.org, a gay rights advocacy website, not only do you have a new venture, it’s a full-fledged mission to support gay marriage with your name and picture stylishly plastered all over it!
When I questioned Handler about the dedicated page that appears to be posted by her, she was completely unaware this site proudly displays her name, and then she humbly responded, “Oh, I didn’t know about that. This is me finding out about this too. Why don’t you explain it to me?” “With pleasure,” I responded.
The FriendFactor.org page endorsed by Handler, asks fans to join a petition to support gay marriage in New York by calling in and leaving a message addressing N.Y. Governor Andrew Cuomo. In fact, the genius founder of Friendfactor.org, Brian Elliot, told me, “Chelsea’s publicist approved the page.” Plus, the actual live link to the Friendfactor dedicated Handler page was even posted on Chelsea’s own Facebook page.
Now, it’s a happy ending. It’s all good, the 683 fans who have called in can rest easy. Handler is now aware of the FF page and is completely on board! When I revealed more details to Chelsea, and how the Friendfactor.org site is all about supporting your gay friends and their rights she instantly agreed, “Yes, that’s Great! It’s perfect!” Handler is thrilled her name is helping make a difference, “I am just happy that anyone is interested in anything I write. I am grateful to have a career at all!”
Maybe Handler could take some advice on how to balance the whole work and personal life thing from Bravo’s “Real Housewives of New York’s” Ramona Singer. The reality star took a break this past weekend from shooting her show and promoting her wine and jewelry lines to go party hopping with hubby Mario. Singer says her secret to successfully juggling it all is, “I work hard and play hard!” On the “Housewives” series this season, Ramona admitted she does get very “Ramotional,” especially on their group trip to Morocco, “I wanted to know who my real girlfriends are. I even said to Jill (Zarin) maybe I enabled you, because I realized Jill was two-faced. I wanted to pull her out and say please don’t be two-faced with me anymore. When I realized in that conversation she wasn’t listening to me, I broke down. I was really being vulnerable, and showing myself. That’s what I’m learning this year, is to try to be more me.” Singer also set the record straight on the evolving series story line that she is a Pinot-holic. “I’ve been on the show for four years, how can I have five businesses, be married 19 years, have a daughter who’s a straight-A student? I cannot be a functioning alcoholic if I have all of this stuff going on. I mean it would be impossible. All the other Housewives drink. Do I over-drink? No! I drink with responsibility. Do you ever see me fall down on TV? Do you ever see me slur my speech? Absolutely not. Do I have a drink or two with dinner? Absolutely!”
Ramona added the show has a whole new production team and says they are clearly editing the show to make her look like she drinks often. Singer is laughing all the way to the bank, “You know what, it promotes my Pinot Grigio. So, if they want to make a big deal about something that doesn’t exist, go right ahead.”
