12 Essential Feng Shui Tips

1. Make it a practice to remove shoes before or upon entering your home.

2. Clear all clutter from every area of your living space that’s under your control.

3. Fix all leaks, from water pipes to faucets to roofs.

4. Make sure your stove is in good working order and use it to cook as often as you can.

5. Add trees, plants, or upward lighting to raise energy. Dispose of dead plants inside your dwelling space and in areas outside your home that you are responsible for.

6. Keep your toilet seat closed when not in use, especially when flushing, to avoid flushing away good chi. This sounds odd but it is one of the most widely practiced Feng Shui techniques I know of.

7. Only if it is safe and practical, open your windows at least 20 minutes a day to allow fresh chi to come in.

8. Replace any and all dead light bulbs with working ones.

9. There should be no television sets in any bedroom (sorry, but it’s a big Feng Shui no-no!)

10. Arrange furniture so you can face the doors while sitting (or add a mirror so you can see behind you). Avoid sitting with your back to a door if you can.

11. Oil your doors’ hinges so they don’t squeak, reducing mental irritation.

12. Add color or art throughout your home to bring in desired positive energy.
