The Postelles Stopped by the Dan's Papers Office in Bridgehampton This Afternoon!
As we have all experienced, New York City can get stiflingly hot during the summer months. To the Postelles, it seems like the perfect time to get away and relax in the Hamptons. Natives of New York, the members of the band have been around the world, playing music across the US, in the UK, India and into the far reaches of Canada. But, it seems, they’ve barely ever been down the street – into the Hamptons – to play.
That will all change this summer. The Postelles are set to play at both the Escape to New York Festival (Aug. 5 – 7, Shinnecock Reservation, Southampton) and at the Surf Lodge (Aug. 27, Montauk). What I’ve heard on their album (self-titled) has me stoked for the two shows. In fact, lead singer Daniel Balk says he looks forward to it: “For us it’s an Escape From New York.”
Escape to New York is a sure shot if you enjoy seeing artists you know – and some you don’t – play music that you’ll love to hear. With big-name performers like Patti Smith or the Psychadelic Furs to up-and-coming acts such as the Postelles, quality is confirmed. And not just in the music. The people running the festival would like you to know that it’s gonna be a real party, down to the literature. You can see it on their website, www.escape2ny.com, which includes a “Manifesto of the Party” by Freddie Fellowes, founder of the Secret Garden Party. This includes wisdom about parties I never thought necessary.
