South Fork Restaurants Honored in "Wine Spectator"
Several South Fork restaurants were honored with Wine Spectator Magazine’s 2011 “Restaurant Wine List Awards,” including The American Hotel in Sag Harbor and Oso Restaurant in Southampton, who received some of the highest accolades. Fresno, 1770 House, Living Room and The Palm in East Hampton were also honored.
Restaurants were judged by the wine-rating authority on such criteria as price, selection, strength, severity of corkage fees, and knowledge of the wine director/sommelier. Cuisine type and menu price, relative to the types of wine offered, are also taken into consideration. Awards are granted on three levels — Award of Excellence, Best of Award of Excellence, and Grand Award — each respectively pertaining to levels of quality based on the criteria mentioned. The Grand Award, an extremely exclusive honor awarded to only 74 restaurants across the country this year, was awarded to the American Hotel. The restaurant (though incumbent in its receipt) boasts over 2,500 selections from its legendary wine list.
