VFH to honor HCC & WVVH-TV at THN 2nd Anniversary Tomorrow
Valores de la Familia Hispana, an organization created solely to help Hispanics integrate into American culture while keeping them connected to their homeland, will be honoring Long Island’s Gladys Serrano, executive director of the Hispanic Counseling Center, and Greg and Ernest Schimizzi of WVVH-TV Hamptons Television with its “Outstanding Community Leader” award for their positive contributions to the community they serve at The Hispanic Network’s 2nd Anniversary Celebration tomorrow, August 17th, at the Holiday Inn Westbury from 6-9pm. “Valores is dedicated to accentuating the positive in the Hispanic community, producing quality Spanish language programming such as The Valores Show, which can be found at www.VFHUSA.com or at www.libc.tv, so it’s only fitting that we bring attention to the great work Gladys and the Hispanic Counseling Center, as well as WVVH-TV Hamptons Television are doing to further their communities’ growth and harmony,” said Ana Grijalva, a representative for VFH. VFH is bringing attention to the Hispanic Counseling Center because it is a fully bilingual, bicultural not-for-profit social services agency serving Long Island since 1977. It is the only completely bilingual agency in Nassau County licensed by the State of New York to provide treatment services in the areas of mental health, substance abuse and alcoholism, as well as youth and family services. The agency also fosters an environment of hope, encouragement, and support for individuals and families working toward a constructive, self-sustaining way of life.
VFH is honoring WVVH-TV Hamptons Television and its founders Greg and Ernest Schimizzi for serving as pioneers in bilingual broadcasting, fostering assimilation within the Tri-State’s diverse community on FIOS’ channel 14 and on Cablevision’s channel 78. Hamptons Television will be dedicating blocks of their schedule to Spanish language and bilingual programming in acknowledgement of the burgeoning market share held by Latinos.
