Massage dates back thousands of years as a healing method, reducing stress, improving relaxation and delivering mind-body wellness in such ancient cultures as Egypt, China and Greece. Flash forward to today on the East End of Long Island and the art of massage is thriving, with options from deep-tissue to hot stone. But how to choose? We asked Ray Pickersgill, owner of Robert James Salon & Spain Riverhead, to take us through five of their massage offerings. Don’t be surprised if you feel better already.
European Swedish Massage—This is the standard, not-so-aggressive massage. They just want their muscles to be relaxed.
Aromatherapy Massage—Different aromas to make you relax more.
Deep Tissue Aramatherapy Synergy Massage—This is more intense than a regular European massage. This is for people that are athletic—that would be a deep tissue massage—and the aromatherapy increases the relaxation.
Tension and Stress Massage—More for your neck and shoulders and totally focuses there.
Hot Stone Therapy Massage—Hot stone is a totally different thing. They heat stones and place them on your spine. Many like this because they are massaged while the stones heat your spinal cord.
