Falling Back into Fitness on the East End

The fall season is a breathe of relief, as it brings a return to routines. Kids are fully back to school, adults have settled back into their work schedules, and “getting back into a routine” creates an opportunity to incorporate exercise into your daily schedule. Routine is key to seeing results. It’s time to commit to your own health and well-being.

Fall is the perfect time to incorporate healthy habits back into your schedule. Here is some advice on how to “fall back into fitness”:

Set up a consistent schedule. Exercise does not have to involve enormous time or commitment—rather, it is a special time just for you. Try taking a walk on your lunch break. Start by introducing 30 minute increments of fitness into your schedule and build from there.

This time of year brings earlier evenings every day. You may not feel so motivated to take that after-dinner jog anymore. Try a gym or a local studio for a workout. An evening cardio class or cardio time on the equipment can replace your old night walks.

Fall is a time for change. Try changing your workouts, too! Mix it up—a new class may be your best bet. If you are a hard-core boot camp lover try a Hot Yoga class—you will be amazed at how challenging the class really is. If you are a lover of Pilates and Yoga, try a Total Body Sculpt or TRX group class. Change is good—don’t be scared to try new things and new places. Research proves that continually evolving your fitness routine keeps it effective. Find a place that offers a wide range of classes or options so that you can change it up every 6 weeks.

Last and most important, find a buddy. Find a friend, family member or even meet someone new at the studio or gym. Hold each other accountable and offer support to each other. Tell each other your goals and motivate each other to stay on your fitness track. Having someone to work out with is both motivating and encouraging.

Fall back into fitness now! By winter, you will have passed the 6-week marker for developing this workout routine into a habit. It will already be a regular part of your life and will help make this winter and holiday season much healthier and happier!
