Michael Painter From Southampton Is Going To Ghana On A Mission
My friend Michael Painter, a young father and a private chef in Southampton who is originally from South Carolina, has decided that he will be going to Ghana, Africa, to a small fishing village where he will be doing missionary work. Michael is a member of the Southampton Methodist Church and came to the decision to go to Ghana after a woman from Africa came to Southampton and explained the hardships that were going on in the village.
“It was at that point I just felt like it was the right thing to do,” Mr. Painter explained. “It’s very sad, a lot of families in the village that I’m traveling to rely on getting food through fishing, but it is a very dangerous business and many of the children of the families are sent out on boats to catch fish, and sadly they don’t come back. When I heard about the the realities of it and how many kids were ending up lost at sea, it just struck me. I plan on going there and doing as much cooking for the people there and to just try my best to make everybody feel as good as possible through some missionary work.”
I asked him if he was nervous about the trip this morning and he told me, “Well I have my reservations. When I told my Mom in South Carolina about it she freaked out a little bit. It’s certainly not the safest place to be traveling to, but I just know that it is something that I have to do. I can’t really explain it any further than that. And of course I plan to be extra careful.”
My hat is off to Michael committing to do this. Heading to the other side of the world to try and help people that he does not know and hopefully bring some happiness and positivity to them earns respect in my book.
