"The Scream" Will Be Auctioned By Sotheby's On May 2
Sotheby’s Auction House in Manhattan will be auctioning off one of the world’s most iconic works of art, “The Scream” by Edvard Munch, on May 2. Sotheby’s Senior Vice President Simon Shaw said that the art could sell for over $80 million.
The Scream is a series of Expressionist paintings and prints created by the Norwegian artist between 1893 and 1910, showing an agonized figure against a red sky. The landscape in the background is the Oslofjord, viewed from Ekeberg, Oslo.
The version that is going up for sale is the fourth version (1895), in pastel, and is owned by Norwegian businessman Petter Olsen,
“The Scream” is one of the most widely recognized paintings in modern art and has been the target of several high profile art thefts.
