All eyes in the Hamptons will be on your feet this weekend—at least for as long as it takes to run the 34th Annual Dan’s Papers PotatoHampton 5K Minithon. When the running shoes come off, however, the fun doesn’t end—especially not when you can eat up some of the East End’s best local food, sing along with Elvis and Madonna (sort of), sip wine from the barrel and soak in all that that this weekend in the Hamptons has to offer.

At Pitchapalooza, 20 participants, selected at random, are given 60 seconds—no more, no less!—to pitch their book idea to veterans of the publishing industry. You’ll get a critique on everything from pitch to style to presentation. At the session’s end, one lucky writer is chosen to meet with a literary agent to discuss the book’s future. So start working on that pitch! But make sure to heed Sterry’s advice: “Don’t tell me your book is sad; make me cry. Don’t tell me your book is funny; make me laugh.” To sign up, purchase your copy of The Essential Guide to Getting Your Book Published at Books & Books.
South Fork Natural History Museum (SoFo)—Horseshoe Crabs and Shorebird Gathering
Saturday, June 2, 7:15 p.m., Pike’s Beach, Westhampton Beach
At Pikes Beach, in past years, from about mid-May to the first week of June, thousands of Horseshoe Crabs, as well as a variety of migrating birds (including Red Knots) gather at this beach. It’s an incredible sight to see, all the more so in the beautiful light of the setting sun. The horseshoe crabs are there to spawn, the birds to feed on their eggs and fuel themselves for their long migration journeys.
But, due to human intervention, something is happening to this age-old process. Data needs to be collected to document and assess the status of horseshoe crabs in our waters—and you can help. Become a citizen scientist and join SoFo and Cornell to assist in collecting information for this study, while you witness one of nature’s most amazing wildlife events. *Please call for directions and meeting places* *Reservations are required for all walks, workshops, and programs* There is no charge for SoFo Members (unless otherwise stated); Non-members $7 per adult; $5 per child. Fees include admission to the museum on the day of the program.
