Lifeguards in the Hamptons are responsible for rescuing approximately 400 people from drowning in the ocean this year. The water was much calmer this year in comparison to last year, which meant that there were fewer saves than usual.
Coopers Beach was estimated to be three times as slow, with roughly fifty rescues instead of one-hundred and fifty rescues compared to last year.
Still, 400 souls are alive today thanks to Lifeguards on the East End. “It’s just a job ma’am, it’s just a job.”
Some people stand in the darkness, afraid to step into the light.
