The Block Island Challenge Has Been Rescheduled Because Of Strong Winds
The Block Island Challenge has been rescheduled due to the threat of strong wind gusts and high seas this weekend. The new date is Friday, September 28th.
I love the Block Island Challenge paddle. It’s just the craziest/coolest event. Anybody that has ever done it gets spiritual about it.
The whole event is an 18-mile open ocean paddle, taking approximately six hours, that begins on the north side of the Montauk Lighthouse (2000 Montauk Highway, Montauk, NY 11954) and end at Champlin‘s Marina (West Side Road, Block Island, RI 02807).
From 1 to 5 p.m., paddlers will celebrate their accomplishment with a catered lunch complete with water, juice, beer and wine along with a ceremony thanking paddlers and support boat volunteers. A return ferry ride to Montauk courtesy of the Montauk-Block Island Ferry from Viking Fleet departs Block Island at 5 p.m.
The whole event also raises money, each paddler must raise or contribute a minimum of $1,500 to participate. It’s $750 for paddlers under 18-years-old. If you’re in, you can register by Friday, September 14 at 5 p.m. online at http://bit.ly/Kpmt0o. At least four support boats will be in the waters along with three jet skis manned by certified lifeguards from Hamptons Lifesaving Association.
