Gas Rationing Ends in the Hamptons and the Rest of LI

Gas rationing in Nassau and Suffolk counties is officially over as of Friday, November 16, but for East End and Hamptons motorists, it never really began.

The odd/even rationing system was in place throughout Long Island on Friday, November 9 in order to ease lines at the pumps after Superstorm Sandy. The system, based on the last number on license plates, asked that cars with odd numbers alternate filling days with the even numbered drivers. Fortunately, on the East End, lines at the pumps were gone by the time rationing began, and the system was mostly ignored by area service stations last week. Commuters from points west reported that the rationing was helpful in Nassau County and western Suffolk.
