East End Could See First Snow of 2012 this Weekend

SNOW! Models suggest that Saturday night could bring between 2 and 4 inches of snow to the East End. According to accuweather.com‘s archives and forecasts, this is expected to be the area’s first—and only—snow accumulation of 2012, though other parts of the Island did experience snowfall. Will we have more occasion for sleds and shovels in the new year?

A massive winter storm crippled the East End and New York in January of 2011, but last year’s holiday season was devoid of the the white stuff, with no snowfall in both December 2011 and January 2012. On February first of this year, temperatures rose to 63 degrees and by March 23, the East End saw unseasonably warm temperatures as high as 74 degrees.

New York City and the metropolitan area is experiencing its warmest year on record.
