Hamptons Faves Earn Oscar Nods

The Oscar nominations are in and, as per usual, Hamptonites are well represented.

Leading the charge is Steven Spielberg’s epic historical saga Lincoln with 12 nominations, including best picture, best director (natch!) best actor and best actress. Lincoln’s 12 nods tie a personal best for the East Hampton resident’s career, as Schindler’s List was also nominated for 12 Oscars at the 66th Academy Awards in 1994. It won seven, including best picture. If Spielberg takes home best picture and best director on February 24, the wins would be his second and third Oscar, respectively, in each category. The director would then be in exclusive company with Frank Capra and William Wyler, who each received three Oscars for best director, and John Ford, who took home four.

Hamptons visitor Bradley Cooper also received his fair share of recognition, as he was nominated for best actor for his role in Silver Linings Playbook. (The romantic comedy-drama scored a nod for best picture too.) Cooper is in the company of fellow East End vacationer Hugh Jackman, whose work in Les Miserables earned him a best actor nomination. Naomi Watts, who frequents East Hampton, will contend for best actress for her role in The Impossible, which tells the story of a family’s experience in the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.

Hamptons International Film Festival favorites will also get their time in the L.A. spotlight. Disney’s Frankenweenie was nominated for best animated feature film, and Mondays at Racine received a nod for best documentary (short subject). Both graced East End theaters at the Hamptons Film Festival last October.

The 85th Academy Awards will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and will air live on ABC on February 24 at 7 p.m. Though DansHamptons.com is not scheduled to attend, we welcome offers from the aforementioned film gurus—or Alec Baldwin—to send us to L.A.
