Local Theater Is Alive And Well In East Hampton—I Can't Wait To See Macbeth On Stage
It really doesn’t get any better than this list of local actors on the East End.
Jeff Keogh as Macbeth. Dan Stearns as Macduff. Andrew Botsford as King Duncan.
Tristan Vaughan, Vincent Cinque, Kenny Kilfara, Josh Gladstone, Morgan Vaughan, Dianne B., Anita Sorel, Bonnie Grice, John Tramontana, Joe Brondo, Brian Schwartz, Gina Fickett, Yuka Silvera, Jennifer Brondo and Tristen Griffen. These are literally the top local names in the acting community on the East End of Long Island. And they are all literally together in one show.
Theater is alive and well in East Hampton, and it all can be seen on stage this weekend with the magical culmination of Shakespeare‘s Macbeth produced by the Round Table Theatre Company and directed by Tristan Vaughn at LTV Studios in Wainscott.
I used to participate a lot in local theater. I mean like a lot. Every year I did a musical with Springs Community Theater. I wrote a musical that was performed in New York City about lifeguarding in the Hamptons, and for the majority of my life, I was a part of the acting community in East Hampton. I hate to admit it, but ever since I moved to Southampton I’ve sort of left that behind me.
However, it is nice to know that local theater has come together on such a fantastically serious and impressive scale. From what I can tell, Macbeth this weekend at LTV Studios is being staged by people completely committed to making beautiful theatrical productions. And they have a fine reputation as actors, producers, technicians and directors amongst their peers and fans.
Joe Brondo is one of those people. He’s an East Hampton local and is a fixture at Guild Hall in East Hampton. The two of us graduated together from East Hampton High School. Joey told me that the director of the show, Tristan Vaughn, is amazing. Tristan is not only directing and producing the show, but is an actor as well. Tristan has his MFA in acting from the Shakespeare Theatre Company‘s Academy for Classical Acting at George Washington University.
Joe explained, “Macbeth is something that our director always wanted to direct. It’s the first production of their new theater company, the Round Table Theatre Company. Both Tristan and Morgan teach two Shakespeare classes at Guild Hall. Tristan is playing Malcom in the show.”
According to Joe Brondo, thanks to the exceptional production value of this particular show, the narrative in Macbeth is easy to follow. “I think the actors rock because you don’t neet to bring a dictionary to understand the production. Everyone’s intentions are very clear and it makes understanding Shakespearean English easy. Most productions I’ve seen have some difficulty with the words. That’s our strong suit however thanks to the directing and the acting.”
Brian Leaver, the Master Set Designer for this show, simply outdid himself with this production. “The set pieces and projections are simply OUTSTANDING!”
You gotta see this show. I’m gonna see it for sure.
