LVIS Cleanup Day in East Hampton
East Hampton’s Ladies Village Improvement Society is asking the community to volunteer and join them for the second annual Cleanup Day in the Village next month.
All the good work begins at 9:30 a.m. in Herrick Park on Saturday, June 1 and will continue until noon. East Hampton Village will hand out bags and gloves to volunteers, who will work in specific zones. Area businesses will also be asked to pay special attention to keeping their facades clean that day.
LVIS’ mission statement explains, “The purposes for which the Society is formed are for the maintenance and preservation of historical landmarks and for the maintenance of ponds, parks, greens, and trees in the Village of East Hampton and vicinity, as well as for charitable and educational improvement and the advancement of the general welfare of the said Village of East Hampton and vicinity.” It doesn’t quite roll off the tongue, but it’s certainly worthy, so go out and help clean up your Village next month!
Also next month, LVIS will hand out college scholarships to East Hampton students selected by the Society’s Student Awards Committee. Last year more than $100,000 was given to 19 graduating students.
