The Phoenix House Summer party, held on June 22, took place at the expansive and lovely waterfront Southampton home of Margie & Michael Loeb, who were very gracious and fun hosts. The attractive crowd, entertained by beautiful DJ Donna D’Cruz, were tastefully outfitted in the required white attire. The moon was rising and we laughed and had a very good time and even made some new friends. We were moved by the young man who shared his story of addiction and recovery.
Since summertime in the Hamptons is so full of social obligations and worthy charity events from Memorial Day through Labor Day, I thought I would share some tips to help you get through and enjoy the party scene.
Remember, it’s a party, and you’re supposed to have fun. Relax. Think positive, take a deep breath, and go. Have an open mind and remember to smile! Take a look around. How are people mingling? What seems to be going on? Knowing what is happening around you will help you feel more comfortable.
Approach people. Look for people that seem to be friendly. They’re the ones laughing, smiling, and cracking jokes. Introduce yourself, and ask to join them. If you feel at a loss for words, mention something about what they are wearing, pay them a compliment. Say that you saw t they were having such a good time, you couldn’t help but ask to join them.Try not to forget their names!
