Today the Hamptons 100 Songs of Summer Countdown gets a little nostalgic with a rock and roll classic.
Hamptons 100 Songs of Summer #68
“The Wanderer” by Dion
Ranked among Rolling Stone‘s “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time,” this 1961 hit tells the tale of a traveling man and his lovers along the road. It’s great fun to listen to and, despite a slightly misogynistic bent, “The Wanderer” and Dion somehow remains endearing.
Sit back or get moving, either way, this bluesy track will have you thinking about greased back pompadours, fast, curvy cars and, of course, curvy women… or rakish men. The song has got summer written all over every one of its 12-bar verse and eight-bar bridge.
