A Perfect Afternoon: Wine & Guitarist Peter White in Peconic
Right now, smooth jazz is more popular than ever, and the East End is keeping in step with the times, thanks to Jazz on the Island, which sponsors live jazz musicians throughout these hazy and hot summer days.
Part of the music organization’s 3rd Annual Summer Concert Series, world-renowned acoustic jazz, pop and classical guitarist Peter White is playing live at Raphael Vineyards on the North Fork this weekend.
Born and raised in England, White is a multitalented musician impressed at an early age by the guitar-playing of Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix. Also, influenced by James Taylor, Crosby, Stills & Nash and other American musicians, White collaborated with Al Stewart on the album, Time Passages. White and his brother Daniel also collaborated with the singer Basia in the 1980s.
But he eventually tired of being in the background, and White landed center stage in the 1990s with his first solo album, Reveillez-Vous, which became very popular with contemporary jazz lovers. His 2012 album Here We Go features collaborations with many high-profile musicians, including David Sanborn, Kirk Whalum and Philippe Saisse, and his holiday albums remain very popular.
What could be more a more perfect afternoon than listening to live jazz by this accomplished musician at a North Fork vineyard? Take the opportunity to see Peter White play at Raphael Vineyards in Peconic (39390 Route 25) on Sunday, July 28 at 2 and 5 p.m. The first show is already sold out, so you better act fast.
