Percussionist Patrick W. Smith Performs with Sag Harbor Community Band
The Sag Harbor Community Band is excited to announce that percussionist Patrick W. Smith will join them for their concert on July 23, which will feature virtuosic xylophone solos with band accompaniment. Also on the program will be marches, songs and other favorites. The concert will take place at 8 p.m. outdoors at the American Legion on Bay Street in Sag Harbor. Admission is free, and the audience is encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
Patrick W. Smith was principal percussionist of the Hong Kong Symphony for two years and has performed many times with the Seattle Symphony. He is presently a member of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra New England. He studied at the Yale School of Music with Fred D. Hinger and is now on the faculty of Western Connecticut State University.
Smith has recorded for the CBS/Sony, RCA, Denon and Koch labels. He has been a soloist with the New Sousa Band and is a clinician for Sabian Cymbals.
Founded in 1957, the Sag Harbor Community Band performs concerts every Tuesday evening from July 4 through the end of August at the American Legion in Sag Harbor, among other musical appearances. The Band also provides scholarships to local students studying music after high school.
