100 Songs of Summer #12 “We Can't Stop" By Miley Cyrus
The Top 100 Songs of Summer Countdown hit a bump in the road last week just like, some say, Miley Cyrus did with her performance at the VMAs on MTV last night. Well, we’re back and celebrating the young siren’s efforts to break free of her “teeny bopper,” Hannah Montana shell—licking teddy bears, twerking and all. On that note, how many people had to look up “twerking” on Wikipedia this morning?

“We Can’t Stop” By Miley Cyrus
Let’s give Miley her due. The Video Music Awards may not have been her most inspired performance, but it demonstrated a certain flair, and a desire to explore and express herself artistically. She began walking this road long before she cut her long locks in favor of a more aggressive ‘do, and it’s unlikely “Party in the U.S.A” Miley will ever return. That’s why she’s earned a spot on the DansPapers.com 100 Songs of Summer. More power to her.
Released as a single in June, “We Can’t Stop” will be a track on Cyrus’ upcoming fourth album Bangerz. The song reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100, just like “Party in the U.S.A.,” and sold more than a million copies, making it her biggest U.S. hit. The song has since sold more than 2,190,000 copies in five countries, and we expect that number will rise after last night’s performance, despite the haters and outcry. Did you see Rhianna scoffing at Miley during her VMA performance? Interesting factoid—”We Can’t Stop” was originally written with Rihanna in mind. Sour grapes?
As the song says:
It’s our party we can do what we want
It’s our party we can say what we want
It’s our party we can love who we want
