Woops! Casper Smart let the American Idol cat out of the bag for superstar girlfriend and Water Mill resident Jennifer Lopez. He has confirmed that JLo is indeed returning to the AI judges table for the show’s upcoming 13th season.
Smart unwittingly broke the news and put months of speculation to rest last week during an interview about his new show A Step Away on E! News. Lopez’s beau first seemed confused when asked about her chances of returning to Idol, saying he thought the deal was already announced, then simply replied “Yes” to the direct question.
Earlier in August, it was reported that Lopez was likely to return, and was in talks, but the official word had yet to come down. In fact, the Fox network still hasn’t released the names of this year’s judges, but there appears to be no doubt Lopez will join Keith Urban and at least one other as-yet-unreported judge. Original AI judge Randy Jackson retired his Coca Cola cup at the end of last season (12) and will not be returning for Season 13, which airs in January of 2014.
Was Smart’s slip part of a cross promotional PR stunt for American Idol and A Step Away? If it was, no one is talking.
