Swinging Music, Sultry Vocals and Sassy Humor with Judy Carmichael at Suffolk Theater
Judy Carmichael will be at the Suffolk Theater in Riverhead this Friday, August 2, to perform new music live on stage. She will feature songs from her new CD, I Love Being Here with You by Peggy Lee, Irving Berlin and others, as well as the swing standards she’s know for by Fats Waller, Gershwin and Hoagy Carmichael, her father.
“People who know my music think of me as the gal who plays upbeat, energetic stride piano. A few of my close pals know I’m also a fan of juicy ballads, early musicals, cheeky lyrics and swingin’ standards,” which will all be featured at the Suffolk Theater, the singer said.
Carmichael is a legend on the East End and around the world as a Grammy-nominated jazz pianist and vocalist. She is one of the world’s leading interpreters of stride piano and swing, and she is very excited about performing at the Suffolk Theater in Riverhead on Friday. “Any time I get to perform close to home is exciting for me, and I’m especially looking forward to playing at the Suffolk Theater because it’s a spectacular example of a town doing the right thing and saving a wonderful architectural treasure,” Carmichael told us. “This is one of the great Art Deco movie palaces built in the 30s in America and we’re fortunate to have this elegant landmark on the East End and I’m thrilled to be one of the first to play there since it’s restoration.”
Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. The Suffolk Theater is located at 118 East Main Street in Riverhead. Call 631-727-4343 or visit suffolktheater.com.
