Local Color II at Gallery North
Local Color II at Gallery North (90 North Country Road, Setauket) attracted some 100 visitors on its opening night last Friday, July 26.
From paintings of private gardens to local parks like the Old Field Farm, or ocean waves enticing adults and children to cool off in the surf, the exhibition highlights the many aspects of local life. A feeling of exuberance filled the gallery as visitors observed drawings, paintings and artist prints, reminding visitors of a favorite location or experience.
Students from Stony Brook University Art Department who participated in the URECA exhibition at the university displayed work, including Alexandra Freytag, Christopher Setter, Hampton Bays artist Brooke Bofill, Mindy Mosher and Rebecca Chipkin. Between the two shows, Local Color I and Local Color II, the work of 43 artists presents a comprehensive story of Long Island.
On Friday, July 26th Gallery North in Setauket hosted the opening of it’s “Local Color 2” show. A variety of regional Artists were represented in the show along with many different mediums. Through these distinct pieces shown, Local Color 2 explores themes and textures of Long Island in a celebration of it’s people and places.
The show runs through mid August. Gallery North is a non-for-profit gallery promoting contemporary Long Island fine art and crafts since 1965. The gallery is open Tuesday–Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. Visit gallerynorth.org or call 631-751-2676 for more info.
