Hampton Theatre Co. Lines Up 'Other Desert Cities,' 'The Foreigner,' More
Hampton Theater Company, the Quogue community theater troupe, has lined up four renowned plays for its 2013-14 season, which kicks off in October.
Beginning October 24, Jon Robin Baitz’s “Other Desert Cities” is a drama about a family gathering at which the imminent publishing of an explosive memoir threatens to tear the family apart. The New York Times called it, “The most richly enjoyable new play for grown-ups that New York has known in many seasons.” It will close November 17.
The season continues January 9 with the opening of “Heroes,” Gérald Sibleyras’s comedy about three aging World War I veterans plotting escape from a home for old soldiers. In a 2009 review, The Times summed it up, writing, “Each of the men — Henri, Gustave and Philippe — thinks the other two are crazy, and each may be right.” It runs until January 26.
“The Foreigner,” an Obie and Outer Critics Circle awards-winner for Best New American Play and Best Off-Broadway Production, opens March 13. Larry Shue’s comedy is about a shy and awkward foreigner’s unexpected adventure in the wilds of rural Georgia. It closes March 30.
Yasmina Reza’s “God of Carnage will run from May 22 to June 8. The Olivier Award winner for Best New Comedy in London had a U.S. run at Broadway’s Bernard Jacobs Theater starring James Gandolfini, Hope Davis, Marcia Gay Harden and Jeff Daniels in 2009. According to The Times review, the play is about the tension that arises and outright blowouts that occur when two married couples meet to discuss a fight between their children at a park. Hampton Theatre Company says, “The brutally entertaining comedy that offers the cathartic release of watching other people’s marriages go ‘boom.'”
Tickets are $25 for general admission, $23 for seniors 65 and older, and $10 for students younger than 21. A season pass is $80. Show dates are Thursdays and Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m.
