Cops: Man Said Give Me Burgers or I Shoot
A man was arrested at the Riverside McDonald’s Sunday shortly after midnight for trying to rob the drive-thru, according to police.
New York State police said a McDonald’s employee reported this hamburglar walked up to the drive-thru and “told the worker to give him some hamburgers and money or he would shoot them.” The man, who was wearing a black cowboy hat, stuck his hand in his vest and said he had two guns, according to the report. Police said the McDonald’s worker closed the drive-thru window and called 911.
State troopers arrived on the scene and found 33-year-old Juan Mendez-DePaz, of Flanders, wearing a black cowboy hat, and he displayed a large black knife on his hip, according to police. After a struggle, Mendez-DePaz was placed under arrest, police said. He is charged with first-degree robbery, a felony, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.
Mendez-DePaz was held at the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in Riverside pending arraignment.
