East End Congressman Holed Up in Office After Capitol Gun Shots
U.S. Capitol police minutes ago lifted a lockdown of the Capitol Building, which was put in place after shots were fired outside, according to reports.
Around 2:50 p.m., while the lockdown was still active, U.S. Representative, Tim Bishop, of Southampton, announced on his Facebook page that he was in his office with his staff.
“I and my staff are unhurt and sheltering in place in DC office as directed by Capitol Police,” Bishop’s Facebook page stated. “We are all deeply distressed by shooting on Capitol Hill. Will share more information as it becomes available. Our thoughts and prayers are for the dedicated officers who put their lives on the line every day to protect us.”
ABC News reports that a Capitol police officer was injured.
