Bay Street Theatre to Stage 'The Little Foxes,' 'Conviction' World Premiere
The November chill has set the stage for a frozen East End winter and a hot summer at Sag Harbor’s Bay Street Theatre. New Bay Street Artistic Director Scott Schwartz has already announced the start of his plans to reinvigorate the theater.
The summer 2014 Mainstage Season kicks off with the world premiere of Conviction, a modern drama by Carey Crim. The show, directed by Schwartz, details the life of Tom Hodges, a beloved teacher, husband, father and neighbor whose student accuses him of crossing the line. This new family drama digs beneath the surface of a happy suburban existence to explore the damage done when seeds of mistrust are planted, asking the question, “How can we live with conviction when some questions cannot be answered?”
The Maintage Season continues with an American classic, The Little Foxes.
Lillian Hellman’s treasured play tells the story of the Hubbard family in Alabama circa 1900. They scheme, connive and campaign for control of the family business and fortune. The production is a delicious portrait of siblings who will do anything to get what they want. The play is also a prescient exploration of the effect of greed on American society, and it rings as true today as it did when originally produced in 1939.
The third show of the Mainstage Season will be a musical that will be announced soon.
