Deer-napper Says He Was Helping Fawns
A Calverton teen who was cited for capturing two fawns after photos of the incident were posted to Instagram says that he is no prankster; rather, he was helping the deer.
George Salzmann, 18, told ABC 7 that the widely publicized incident did not happen the way the DEC described it. However, he did admit that posting a photo while he held a fawn and a friend held a Natural Ice beer was unwise.
He said a fawn was stuck in a fence with a bloodied face and they took it home to clean the blood off before releasing it. He and his friends also freed another deer from the fenced in area and released it immediately, according to Salzmann. “At the end of the day, I think I was doing a good deed.”
