Peter Torrillo Charged in Hit-and-Run Death of Erika Strebel
Suffolk County police Monday arrested Peter Torrillo, an Eastport man who they say is responsible for the hit-and-run accident November 2 that claimed the life of Erika Strebel.
According to police, Strebel, of Eastport, and Edward Barton, of East Moriches, were by Strebel’s disabled 1988 Jeep, parked on the shoulder of the eastbound lane of Montauk Highway when they were struck by a vehicle at 9:05 p.m. Strebel, 27, died and Barton, 26, was injured. The vehicle sustained front-end damage and kept driving, police said.
Torrillo, 48, is charged with leaving the scene of fatal incident and leaving the scene of a serious injury incident. He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
On the night of the incident, Strebel was taken by East Moriches Ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead where she was pronounced dead, while Barton was airlifted by Suffolk County police medevac helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of head and knee injuries.
According to a memorial Facebook page for Strebel, she leaves behind a 5-year-old son, A.J.
