Barbara Walters to Receive Lifetime Achieve Award from Guild Hall
The View host and Southampton resident Barbara Walters is slated to receive the Literary-Media Arts Award at the 29th Annual Guild Hall Academy of the Arts Lifetime Achievement Awards in March 2014.
“The awards annually celebrate the creativity of an outstanding group of artists and visionaries on the East End whose work has consistently delighted and whose commitment to the arts has inspired us,” says Roy Furman, the president of Guild Hall’s Academy of the Arts.
The academy honors both summer and year-round East End residents who have demonstrated excellence in the visual, literary, and performing arts.
Walters was the first woman to anchor a network news broadcast.
Walters announced in May that she will retire from The View and television hosting and interviewing in general in May 2014. For years, she has hosted ABC’s annual Most Fascinating People, and she formerly co-anchored Today. Walters was a regular c0-anchor of 20/20 and this year she resumed anchoring for the new Saturday edition.
Walters will be honored March 10 at Sotheby’s in Manhattan. Additional honorees for will be announced before then.
