Hamptons Dining Dish: Dine Out for Christmas Eve
Christmas Day is synonymous with celebrating family and friends and, most importantly, for eating good food with loved ones. While many families cook up an epic feast, there are some great East End restaurants open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for those who don’t want to spend the whole day in the kitchen (not that there’s anything wrong with that!). Here are just a few:
Pierre’s — Have a hankering for French cuisine? Pierre’s in Bridgehampton is a great option for both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The American Hotel — This historic Sag Harbor Village spot is open every Christmas. The Sea Grille at Gurney’s Resort Spa and Conference Center — If you’re spending the holidays in Montauk, we recommend going to this East End staple for some fabulous seafood and other great items from their menu. Rowdy Hall in East Hampton will be open on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day offering a few a la carte specials. The Christmas Eve specials include lobster bisque and lobster buns with lemon and herbs on a parker house roll. The New Year’s Eve lunch menu includes truffle potato soup and a smoked salmon omelette ($14). The New Year’s Day menu includes hair of the dog soup and fried chicken and biscuits. 631-324-8555
Alure in Southold is offering a three-course prix for $27.95 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The prix fixe includes a glass of house wine, tap beer, specialty cocktail or well drink. Menu items may include baked clams, grilled swordfish, slow braised beef short rib and pumpkin ravioli. Other weekly specials include an Industry Night on Sundays featuring a $24.95 three-course prix fixe, and Couples Night on Mondays featuring a $50 prix fixe for two. 631-876-5300
Almond in Bridgehampton will host its 13th annual Christmas Eve dinner of roast suckling pig served with cabbage, caramelized apples and spaetzle for $31. A portion of the revenue from Christmas Eve will be donated to the Pajama Program, which provides new, warm pajamas and new books to children in need in the United States and all around the world. The regular a la carte menu will also be available. Hours on Christmas Eve, December 24th are 5 to 9:30 p.m. Almond will be closed on Christmas Day. Reservations are required. 631-537-5665
Fresh in Bridgehampton is hosting Manly Mondays every week from 8 to 10 p.m. at the bar only as part of its weekly Hamptons Theme Nights held Sunday to Thursday. A flat screen TV shows the Monday Night Game, and a dinner special featuring a New York State grass-fed beef burger or grilled veggie burger with a Blue Point draught beer or a glass of house wine costs $10, plus tax and gratuity. 631-537-4700
Swallow East in Montauk is offering a $24.95 prix fixe every day except Saturdays (closed Mondays). The special features two plates, one drink and one dessert (excludes raw bar). Items may include burrata mozzarella with heirloom tomatoes, pistachio pesto and balsamic syrup; blackened shrimp tacos with tomato, pickled red onion and chipotles mayo; and black angus beef sliders. Robert’s in Water Mill offers a variety of dishes highlighting Italian coastal cuisine. Diners could start with grilled asparagus with truffled pecorino or prosciutto di parma with sautéed zucchini, garlic and aged balsamic. Main courses include fresh ricotta gnocchi with tomato, basil, garlic and red pepper, pan-seared striped bass on potato pancake with wilted spinach, and rosemary and sage crusted 16oz “prime” New York strip with shoestring fries. “Midweek menu classics,” such as herb-crusted chicken with gorgonzola polenta is also available. 631-726-7171
