Michael J. Fox, Sofia Vergara Nominated for Golden Globes
Quogue resident Michael J. Fox and frequent Hamptons visitor Sofia Vergara are among the nominees for the The Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s 2014 Golden Globes, which will be awarded next month.
Fox is nominated in the Best TV Actor, Comedy category for his new eponymous NBC sitcom. On The Michael J. Fox Show, Fox plays Mike Henry, a former TV news anchor who had retired because of Parkingson’s but decides to return to work after a number of years.
Fox is a nine-time Golden Globe nominee, and a four-time winner. He won the award for Best TV Actor, Comedy three years in a row for his work as Mike Flaherty in Spin City, his last sitcom before he stepped away due to his Parkinson’s disease. Back in 1989, he earned that award as Alex P. Keaton in Family Ties.
Fox has won four Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor, three in a row for Family Ties and once for Spin City. He took home the award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series in 2009 for a role on Rescue Me.
He is competing with Jason Bateman, Don Cheadle, Jim Parsons and Andy Samberg at 2014’s Golden Globes.
Vergara, for her role as Gloria on Modern Family, is nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Mini-Series or TV Movie. She was also nominated the last three years but has yet to take home a Golden Globe.
Vergara competes with Hayden Panettiere, Jacqueline Bissett, Janet McTeer and Monica Potter this time around.
The 2014 Golden Globes awards ceremony will broadcast January 12.
