Several Cited at Hampton Bays DWI Checkpoint
New York State troopers and Suffolk County sheriff’s deputies set up a sobriety checkpoint late Saturday night into early Sunday in Hamptons Bays and charged four.
The checkpoint was on Sunrise Highway/Route 27 eastbound, east of Exit 65, which takes motorists onto Route 24.
A 24-year-old Palm Beach, Florida, man and a 24-year-old Southampton man were both charged with driving whole intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and held for morning arraignment at Southampton Justice Justice Court. A 28-year-old Wading River woman was cited with driving while impaired by drugs and a 25-year-old Southampton man was cited for unlawful possession of marijuana. They were released on appearance tickets.
Between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m., 200 vehicles were stopped at the checkpoint, according to authorities.
