Ella Watts-Gorman Appears in North Fork Community Theatre Variety Show
Southold’s Ella Watts-Gorman, who appeared in NBC’s live broadcast of The Sound of Music Live! (starring Carrie Underwood as Maria von Trapp), will perform in the North Fork Community Theatre (NFCT) Variety Show on Sunday, January 5.
Watts-Gorman, along with co-star Michael Nigro (a New Jersey resident), will sing “Edelweiss” from the hit musical. Watts-Gorman and Nigro starred as Louisa and Friedrich, two of the von Trapp children. The broadcast also included True Blood star Stephen Moyer as Captain von Trapp, Tony and Grammy winner Audra McDonald as Mother Abbess and Tony nominee Laura Benanti as Elsa Schrader.
The 10th Annual NFCT Variety Show will raise money for scholarships that are given to six local students each year. The show runs on Friday, January 3 and Saturday, January 4 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, January 5 at 2:30 p.m. (Watts-Gorman and Nigro will only perform on Sunday). Tickets are $10 and can only be purchased at the door.
While critics agreed that Underwood’s musical talents far exceeded her acting skills, The Sound of Music Live! proved to be a massive commercial success for NBC, being watched by 18 million viewers. NBC has since announced that they will be producing live musical broadcast for the 2014 holiday season.
