Riverhead Police Search for Masked Shooter
After pulling over 19-year-old Bellport man Jerome Eleazer on Thursday night, Riverhead police were alerted to a shooting incident outside a local hotel.
According to police, Eleazer said he was in the rear parking lot of the Hyatt Place hotel, where he was staying, when two masked people approached him and told him to get out of his vehicle. When he didn’t get out, one of the masked people shot into the vehicle through a window, police said in a statement.
Eleazer drove off and was stopped by police at 11:15 p.m. on East Main Street for driving erratically, according to the statement.
Several minutes later, several witnesses at the hotel reported the incident and said the shooter also shot at the building before fleeing in a vehicle with two others.
Police said Eleazer was not injured and did not wish to pursue the matter. However, authorities are pursuing the matter and believe that it was not a random act—Eleazer, they say, was targeted.
