Hamptons Pet Advocates and Jill Rappaport at New York Pet Fashion Show
Hamptons pet people were out in force at the 2014 New York Pet Fashion Show in Manhattan on Friday.
Westminster Weekend kicked off at New York’s historic Hotel Pennsylvania, with the world’s largest pet fashion and rescue event on February 7. The Crown Jewels of Fashion & Rescue party featured a pet runway show sponsored and furnished by Gramercy Lane (gramercylane.com), an interior design and home furnishing company owned and operated by Hamptonite and animal advocate Tracy Collins, as well as the unveiling of London Jewelers’ Ultimate Diamond Collar & Leash designed by Candy Udell (creator and designer of the famous $2.5 million Victoria’s Secret bra).
Udell was presented a Corporate Excellence Award for her work with London Jewelers and the Rescue Paw Foundation, while fellow Hamptons animal advocate, bestselling author and television star Jill Rappaport (who also has a line of “Opt to Adopt” collars and leashes with Gramercy Lane) was named Humanitarian of the Year. Prince Lorenzo Borghese was named Ambassador of Rescue, and the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals was given the Animal Welfare Organization of the Year Award.
Presented by world renowned pet fashion designer and the show’s creative director Ada Nieves, the night included four runway shows with the world’s most expensive dog couture items ever seen in this format. Treasures on view included a Lumieres dog couture dress priced at $25,000, Udell’s Diamond Dog Collar (later worn by the Rescue Dog of the Year winner), the Queen’s Crown priced at $3,000 and the Papillon priced at $2,500. In total, more than $400,000 of outfits, accessories and jewelry for dogs were displayed on the runway.
The night’s festivities benefited the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s animals and their 150 participating shelters and rescue groups (animalalliancenyc.org).
