County Seeks Seasonal Employees for Endangered Species Protection
Suffolk County is looking for employees for its endangered species protection program to help manage nesting shorebirds, namely piping plovers and least terns.
The nests are expected to be in at least 17 sites throughout the county, including on the East End.
“Many high school and college students are always seeking summer employment opportunities,” Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said in a statement. “These seasonal positions present an opportunity for employment as well as the ability to help maintain the wildlife at our beaches for all to enjoy.”
Prospective employees should have an interest and/or coursework in ornithology, ecology, and natural resources and must be able to meet the physical demands of the job: walking miles on the beach, carrying heavy fencing materials, digging trenches; all in typical summer weather
Employees will also be required to have a valid driver’s license and use their own vehicles to drive for two or three hours a day. They must also be willing to work weekends and holidays.
This position pays $8.55 per hour up to 35 hours per week, and housing may be available
Applicants should email [email protected] by March 14.
