50 Things to Do Before Memorial Day: Eat Out Every Night of the Week
There are less than 50 days left until Memorial Day weekend, and while we at Dan’s Papers can’t wait, we also know there are many things we have to squeeze in during the next few weeks on the East End, lest we lose our chance with all that summer brings. We know that if we don’t get out and do these now, we’ll have to wait until after Labor Day before we try again…and so will you!
We continue our countdown of things to do before Memorial Day weekend on the East End with #42: Eat Out Every Night of the Week
The East End is a moveable feast, and it’s time to get moving if you want to get to all those restaurants before they fill up with summer crowds. On both forks there’s a bounty to behold before the calendar flips to 5-23-14, and here’s a menu of favorites for every evening.
Saturday: Prix Fixe Night. Come high season, getting a Saturday-night table is right up there with a beach sticker and a parking spot—much desired, tough to come by. Right now you are not only pretty much assured of a seat, but there’s a prix fixe smorgasbord. Yes, you may have to dine a little earlier than usual, as most Saturday prix fixe menus end at 6:30 or 7 p.m. (hey, it’s still Saturday night), that leaves the whole night ahead of you. Hit various villages and try Fresno in East Hampton, Sag Harbor’s Bell & Anchor and Muse in the Harbor, Casa Basso in Westhampton, Gurney’s in Montauk, Le Chef and The Plaza Café in Southampton…
Sunday: Steak Night at 75 Main. People-watching is a favorite side dish at this Southampton Main Street mainstay, but you won’t be able to take your eyes off your plates during the three-course Sunday-night steak dinner. At $16.95, there’s no reason to end the weekend cooking for yourself—this is the perfect way to ease back into the work week in style.
Monday: Date Night at Tutto Il Giorno. Serving up the perfect combination of romance and rustic Italian fare in Sag Harbor—and who’s going to look better than you when you tell your significant other you have a date plan for a Monday?!
Tuesday: Lobster Night at Bobby Van’s. It’s nearly impossible to walk into the venerable Bridgehampton steakhouse and not order up a porterhouse or filet mignon, but Lobster Night puts the venerable crustacean front-and-center.
Wednesday: Girls Night Out at Cooperage Inn. Every summer night can feel like a party on the East End, but while the sun’s still going down before prime time, this North Fork classic—and the tasty $5 Cosmos and $15 bottles of wine—turns what could be a night for midweek doldrums into a festive evening on the town.
Thursday: Pizza Night at Fresh Hamptons. We’re not sure what’s better about the Bridgehampton restaurant’s build-your-own pie dinner—the organic emphasis from crust to sauce, the Mecox Bay heritage sausage topping, or ending the night with a scoop of homemade gelato. Happily, you can have them all.
Friday: International Food Fridays at Noah’s in Greenport. After a recent trip to Nepal, Chef Noah Schwartz and his wife, Sunita, decided to celebrate their experience by offering internationally themed small plates at their restaurant. Vicariously visit Japan on April 18, Thailand on April 25 and Mexico from May 2 to 5, in an extended celebration of Cinco de Mayo.
Come back tomorrow for 50 Things to Do Before Memorial Day in the Hamptons #41.
