CEO of Spirituality' JD Messinger Hosts Workshop at Sandcastle Saturday
JD Messinger, the man Martha Stewart Whole Living Daily dubbed the CEO of spirituality, is coming to Bridgehampton Saturday to present an all-day workshop on discovering one’s true purpose in life.
Messinger gives such presentations around the country and he is also the author of a book of inspirational and thought-provoking parables, 11 Days in May: The Conversation That Will Change Your Life.
His aim is to help people become happier, healthier and more prosperous, but he does not consider himself a motivational speaker.
“To use conventional terms, some people would say I’m an executive coach, mentor, consultant, innovator,” Messinger said in an interview Monday. “I simply call myself a teacher. I like that word, teacher. To me, it’s one of the most noble callings you can have.”
Messinger set out on his path after he broke his neck and had a near-death experience, he explained.
He is an Annapolis graduate who served as a nuclear submarine officer. He joined Exxon in 1986 and oversaw cleanup of 1,000 miles of the Alaskan coast after the Exxon Valdez oil spill. As an expert in the energy industry, he joined Ernst & Young in 1995 and worked his way to becoming CEO for Ernst & Young Consulting, Singapore.
Then in 2000, he had the accident that changed his life.
“The short story is I broke my neck,” Messinger said. “I died, I left my body. I floated above my body and I went through a tunnel. I came back and everything was different.”
Working at a high level in Asia, he got the best of Eastern medicine, including reiki and acupuncture. And rather than screws or plates being put in his neck, doctors took bone from his hip. He said the bone in his neck regenerated. “Countless doctors have looked at it and are just speechless.”
He said that after he broke his neck he learned Mandarin in 60 hours. “I had a lot of metaphysical experiences,” he added, saying that he knew about the energy crisis and terrorist attacks before they happened.
“I had an existential crisis,” he said. Who he thought he was, shattered.
He threw himself into work to maintain his sanity, but he eventually realized he wasn’t happy because he wasn’t doing what he was supposed to do. He gained new perspective.
“We’re nothing but pure energy, which is light, which is photons,” Messinger said. “We’re a light being. Our energy is manipulated by our thoughts and our actions.”
He discovered a numerology program that, based on his name and birthdate, gave him a 100-page report on his personality and life. He was so impressed with its accuracy that he licensed the program and tested it on a thousand people.
At Saturday’s presentation, all participants will receive their numerology profile, which includes their qualities and their gifts.
“Everyone is born with a unique set of gifts and abilities,” Messinger said. “Love what you do, do it extremely well, be prosperous and—more importantly—happy.”
Messinger lives in Texas but his niece, Kristen Farrell, lives in Bridgehampton with her husband, builder Joe Farrell, at the Sandcastle estate. That’s where Messinger’s presentation will take place.
The program “Discover Your Soul Path and Reclaim Your Power” will be Saturday, April 5, from 9 to 4:30 p.m. The cost is $250 per person and includes lunch. Register at jdmessinger.com
