Shop 'til You Drop: Nooks, Looks and Books for Getting in Shape This Spring
It’s hard to believe it, but one of these days summer will in fact be here. The question is, are you ready?
Having spent most of my winter stretching out and meditating my way to inner and outer bliss at Ananda Wellness and Yoga Center, at 39-41 Windmill Lane in Southampton, I felt more prepared than ever to once again embrace the outdoors with a good hike in the trails maintained by the wonderful folks at Southampton Trails Preservation Society. After two hours of soaking in the sunlight and making my way through the winding paths of the Paumanok Path in Hampton Bays, I felt amazing.
For anyone with an urge to better familiarize themselves with our woods, pick up a copy of Mike Bottini’s Trail Guide to the South Fork. I got mine at BookHampton, 16 Hampton Road in Southampton. Call 631-725-8425 or visit bookhampton.com. For a complete listing of group nature hikes, led by area experts, visit the event schedule on the Southampton Trails Preservation Society website, southamptontrails.org, or check the weekly Dan’s Papers calendar. If you feel tight afterward, get yourself to a good yoga class! Visit the class schedule at anandawellnessyoga.com or call 631-287-3546.
If you’re looking for something more intense, or a way of getting a good sweat session on a rainy day, there’s a new high-end indoor cycling and fitness studio in Hampton Bays: MARVILfit. Located at 101-3 West Montauk Highway in the Hamlet Green shopping center in Hampton Bays, MARVILfit will be the first studio on Long Island to use Spinner Blade Ion bikes. The rider’s pedaling powers the bike and a computer system built in to the bikes are ANT+ compatible, which allows the rider to download performance data to a smartphone. The studio will also feature biodegradable equipment wipes, recycled rubber flooring (both made in the USA), LED lighting and energy star flat screens. Visit marvilfit.com or call 631-697-3823 to book classes and bike times.
With all this working out, you’ll feel confident enough to sport a crop top. Although it may come as a surprise, what is more refreshing than ever about this style obsession is that it can actually work for all different body types. You can rock the style if you are curvy or petite, and pairing the cropped top styles looks chic and clean when you pair it with a high skirt. Eileen Fisher’s cropped tank looks gorgeous paired with those high-cut skirts or trousers. The style is available at 26 Newtown Lane, East Hampton. Call 631-324-4111 or visit eileenfisher.com.
In a belated nod to Earth Day, Dr. Hauschka’s cleanser and toner are a perfect way to achieve radiant skin while working in harmony with Mother Nature. With a celebrity fan list that reads like a who’s who of Hollywood, including Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Alba, Keri Russell and Olivia Wilde, Dr. Hauschka Skin Care’s all-natural products are known for their truly natural formulations that actually work. I’ve been using Soothing Cleansing Milk to remove makeup in the evenings and to give my skin a gentle wake-up in the mornings, followed by a misting of Facial Toner to complete the cleansing process. My hydration levels are balanced, for the first time in my life, and there’s almost no need for makeup. Dr. Hauschka products are always available at Second Nature Markets, at 70 Main Street in Southampton and and at 41 Newtown Lane in East Hampton, and online at drhauschka.com.
