50 Things to Do Before Memorial Day: See a Show—or Have a Drink—at Suffolk Theater
Memorial Day weekend draws ever closer, and while we at Dan’s Papers can’t wait, we also know there are many things we have to squeeze in during the next few weeks on the East End, lest we lose our chance with all that summer brings. We know that if we don’t get out and do these now, we’ll have to wait until after Labor Day before we try again…and so will you!
We continue our countdown of things to do before Memorial Day weekend on the East End with #15: See a Show—or Have a Drink—at Suffolk Theater
Suffolk Theater in downtown Riverhead is the new home on the East End for big-name artists. Since its re-opening in March 2013, the acts performing at the theater have garnered more and more attention. With a full bar with plenty of counter space and gourmet kitchen to boot, the theater makes for a great venue for your favorite acts, and a great place to discover a new artist you were on the fence about. After a recent trip to see indie-rock legend Ani DiFranco, we can speak to the fact that the sound, the mood and the service at the Suffolk Theater are nothing but top-notch.
You have five chances to see a show at the theater before Memorial Day; whether you’re interested in rock ‘n’ roll or stand-up comedy, the theater has you covered. Saturday, May 10, features Jay and the Americans, a concert by the rock legends of more than 50 years. Kicking off a set of events called Summer Dance Thursdays, on May 15 Mambo Loco will be performing their classic Latin Jazz and Afro-Cuban rhythms. And on Friday the 23rd, be sure to check out the Long Island Comedy Showcase and see what sort of funny Long Island has to offer.
On Mother’s Day, May 11, you’ll have a chance to see the Gail Storm Trio and on Saturday, May 24, attend the “Concert that Never Was,” a concurrent Clash and Green Day tribute. Check out Suffolk Theater’s website, suffolktheater.com, for more information and for events after Memorial Day.
Before any show, get there early to have a drink at the bar, or to sit down for an a la carte dinner.
