East End Theater Students Earn Teeny Awards
Students from Hamptons and North Fork high schools took home trophies Sunday from the 12th annual Teeny Awards, presented by East End Arts.
Held this year at Longwood High School in Middle Island, the annual awards ceremony recognizes outstanding student theater at both public schools and private schools.
The Judges’ Choice Award when to the cast of The Fantasticks at Pierson, with student director Emily Selyukova. Pierson also took home the Teeny for Outstanding Ensemble for A Chorus Line. Pierson’s Rebecca Dwoskin as “Olga Buckley Lodge” in A Murderer Among Us won Lead Actress in a Drama.
Best Actress in a Comedy was shared by two Ross School students for their roles in The Grand Scheme: Daniela Herman as Bethel and Naomi Tankelas Clarice. Supporting Actress in a Drama went to Ross’s Amili Targownik as The One-and-a-Half-Year Silent Girl and Supporting Actor in a Drama went to Ross’ Ioannis “Yanni” Giannakopoulos as “Scotty” in Median.
Westhampton Beach High School’s Maura Sitzmann as “Little Sally” in Urinetown won Supporting Actress in a Musical.
Southold High School’s Meg Pickerell won Outstanding Performer in a Musical for her role as Alexi Darling in Rent and for her solo during “Seasons of Love.”
Connor Vaccariello won Supporting Actor in a Comedy for portraying Milkman/Sheriff/Heavy 1/Chief Inspector in The 39 Steps, a co-production of Greenport and Southold drama clubs.
Shelter Island’s Drew Garrison tied for Lead Actor in a Musical. He was awarded for his role as Igor in Young Frankenstein.
Eastport-South Manor’s Amanda Mullin as Ruth Condomine in Blithe Spirit won Lead Actress in a Comedy. Aly Blazer won the Playbill/Poster Art category for Blithe Spirit.
Shoreham Wading River’s Sean Mannix won Supporting Actor in a Musical as Enoch Snow in Carousel.
Patrick O’Brien as Biff Loman in Death of a Salesman at McGann-Mercy won Lead Actor in a Drama.
Longwood students won several categories: John Coyne as Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing for Lead Actor in a Comedy, Ramsey Pack as Mr. Applegate in Damn Yankees tied for Lead Actor in a Musical, Shannon Muthig as Lola in Damn Yankees Lead Actress in a Musical, and David Letteriello as Boracchio in Much Ado About Nothing for Outstanding Performer in a Play (Drama or Comedy).
The afternoon included performances of “Run Freedom Run” from Urinetown by Westhampton Beach High School, “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” from The Sound of Music by Eastport-South Manor High School, “What I Did for Love” from A Chorus Line by Pierson High School, “Transylvania Mania” from Young Frankenstein by Shelter Island High School, “Shoeless Joe from Hannibal, MO” from Damn Yankees by Longwood High School. Center Moriches High School student Ryan Schaefer gave a solo tap performance.
