Governor Cuomo Approves Extra World Cup Watching Time
Instead of stealthily keeping a live stream window open on their work computers, New York State employees are getting some extra break time today to root on Team USA.
Governor Andrew Cuomo tweeted a letter announcing an extra hour during lunch breaks at noon to partake in World Cup festivities.
The letter is addressed to US Men’s National Team Head Coach Jurgen Klinsmann in response to the coach’s earlier excuse letter for American workers.
“Please excuse ____________ from work on Thursday, June 26th,” wrote Coach Klinsmann. “I understand that this absence may reduce the productivity of your workplace, but I can assure you that it is for an important cause.”

Cuomo’s patriotic response is signed off with, “New York believes that we will win.”

This afternoon’s match in Brazil will determine whether the United States team advances in the tournament. Following a victory over Ghana and stunning tie with Portugal, the United States needs at least a tie with Germany to advance. Adding to the heightened excitement around the match, Klinsmann is a former German player and 1990 World Cup Champion himself.
