Newly Built Hamptons Mansion Destroyed in Fire Tuesday [PHOTOS]
Two firefighters were injured Tuesday battling a blaze that turned a newly built residence in Water Mill into a pile of charred rubble.
Southampton Fire Department was called to Seven Ponds Road at 7:12 p.m. and the first unit to arrive found that the house was fully engulfed in flame, said 2nd Assistant Chief Chris Brenner.
“You could see the smoke from County Road 101 and the Long Island Expressway in Medford,” Brenner said. He also heard reports that the smoke was visible from Sag Harbor and Plum Island. “It was monstrous.”
North Sea, Hampton Bays, Sag Harbor and Bridgehampton fire departments were called in to assist. “Everyone did a wonderful job,” Brenner said.
A Southampton firefighter suffered a shoulder injury and a firefighter from another agency had smoke inhalation, Brenner said. The injured firefighters were treated at Southampton Hospital and released.
Brenner said firefighters were on scene passed 11:15 p.m.
Southampton Town fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.
