PopHampton: Fall TV Looms as East End Summer Winds Down
It’s August, which means that we’re only a month away from the fall television season! Hamptonites have lots to look forward to, like the fourth season of Hamptons-set soap Revenge, the hyped reality show Kourtney and Khloe Take the Hamptons and Showtime’s sexy new drama, The Affair, set (and filmed!) in Montauk.
Revenge, which is a big favorite here at Dan’s Papers, has become infamous for its wildly melodramatic storylines, ridiculous twists and a “slightly” inaccurate portrayal of the Hamptons. We’ll be posting a catch-up of the story so far on DansPapers.com, but the Season 4 (premiering on Sunday, September 28 at 10 p.m.) is set to be a bit of a soft reboot for the ABC series, which is necessary considering the amount of craziness that went down in May’s season finale. For those that missed it: Emily finally avenged her father’s death! Conrad read the riot act to Charlotte, who confronted him about his various misdeeds over the years. In a fantastic, climactic performance by Henry Czerny, Conrad confessed to framing David for the airplane bombing, having David killed, being behind for the global corporate terrorist group “The Initiative,” killing Amanda and being responsible for global warming and staging the moon landing (note: two of those things may not have happened). After the diatribe, Conrad turned on the TV to find that he and Charlotte were broadcasting live on national TV, thanks to a hidden camera planted by Emily and Nolan. Conrad was arrested for his crimes, but escaped from prison, only to be stabbed in cold blood…by a very-much-alive David Clarke! Victoria, meanwhile, was driven slightly mad (well, madder than usual) by the murder of Pascal. In a stunning act of depravity, she lured Aiden into a trap, drugged his tea with a paralytic and stifled him to death, all to hurt Emily, who she blamed for all her problems. Emily, in response, conked Victoria upside the head with a shovel and had her committed. Heavy, no?
Things should be substantially lighter in Kourtney and Khloe Take the Hamptons, which will chronicle the Kardashian sisters’ summer on the East End. Hamptonites may have seen the Kardashians having lunch at Southampton’s 75 Main, checking on their Jobs Lane boutique and otherwise enjoying their summer. Kourtney and Khloe have been spending lots of time with Kourtney’s boyfriend, Scott Disick, who grew up in the Hamptons and went to the Ross School. Disick, who has a long, televised problem with his heavy partying habits made local news after his briefcase was reported as missing. Unrelated speculation about a missing egg salad recipe quickly went viral on the net. Kourtney and Khloe Take the Hamptons will air this fall on the E! network. You can also catch Khloe and Scott on the upcoming season finale of Royal Pains, which will air on Tuesday, September 9 at 9 p.m. on USA Network.
Showtime’s The Affair, premiering on Sunday, October 19 at 10 p.m., is looking like a sexy Sunday treat (we still love you though, Revenge!). Starring Joshua Jackson, Ruth Wilson, Dominic West and Maura Tierney, The Affair tells the story of two very different couples whose lives are torn apart as the result of a torrid love affair. Wilson and Jackson play Alison and Cole, Montauk locals who are getting over a tragedy and trying to move on with their lives, while West and Tierney play Noah and Helen, a Manhattan couple vacationing for the summer. Alison and Noah have an affair, and the series is told from their separate perspectives. But it’s not all about sexy times and romance—we hear the story from each character as told to a detective trying to unravel a crime.
