It's a Blowout! Blow Hampton on Frizz, Styles and Hair Products
The blowout-bar trend that’s been sweeping the nation has hit the East End with the opening of Blow Hampton in Bridgehampton and East Hampton—that’s right, the Hamptons have taken to the in-and-out hair styling concept so feverishly that owner Lila Beudert opened two full-fledged salons in the space of a few months. To find out more we spoke with Beudert, who says that she plans on keeping the first and only blow-dry bars on the South Fork open year-round.
What made you open a Blow “Out East”?
I saw the need for this kind of specialized salon. I had friends who could never get a blowout at a full service salon because they were just too booked with other services. I knew there had to be an in-and-out spot for these ladies.
How did you find your locations and do you plan on being open year-round?
Originally I was looking at a different location in Bridgehampton. After seeing it, I was walking through town and there was a small sign in the window of this store right on Main Street. I called right away and saw it the next day! We opened our second location in East Hampton soon after. We also make house calls, offering our same great salon services, plus makeup, in the comfort of your own home. Clients will be ready for anything before they step out the front door! Yes, we will be here year-round for ALL your hair needs.
This season saw the opening of so many pop-up salons and so many on-demand beauty apps, how do you work on setting yourself apart with your blowouts?
For starters, I opened mid-April, which is not the “pop-up season,” so I think I got a head start on building a loyal clientele. The weekend of Easter was my opening weekend and it was swamped! From that weekend on, I had a following. My stylists are absolutely amazing people, let alone talented hair stylists, and I think women really enjoy coming in here. It’s a friendly and fun environment and we know everyone’s name.
What styles have you found to be the most popular?
“The Jen” is definitely the most popular style. It has loose waves and can be worn for any occasion! Also braiding is really in this year, it’s easy and perfect for the beach or the boat.
Can you single out some of your favorite haircare brands?
At Blow we only carry one hair line, so I’m a little biased, but it really is the BEST. We use UNITE. It’s an L.A.-based brand, totally safe for all hair and works for every hair type. It’s sulfate free, paraben free and of course, gluten free.
What are the must-have haircare products for fall?
Our texturizing spray, it creates volume that will last all day, you can use it in wet or dry hair and it doesn’t have to go with a blowout. You can use it right out of the shower, let it air dry and see the difference!
Any tips for extending the time your blowout lasts?
I know everyone hates to hear it but use products; they hold the volume and curl in your hair, reduce frizz and prevent your hair from “dropping.”
Best hair tip you’ve ever received?
Don’t wash your hair every day, it dries your hair out. Use dry shampoo (our 7 Seconds Refresher is amazing!).
Biggest hair pet peeve?
Mine personally? Knotting. My hair will knot as you’re brushing it! If you have this problem, use a leave-in conditioner. It’s life changing.
Biggest mistake people make when it comes to their hair?
Extensions. I see so many women who have ripped all their real hair out by having extensions. Make sure the stylist knows what she or he is doing, let them know you want this to be in addition to your hair and not a replacement. Hair is so hard to grow. Keep it!
