Schneiderman to Host Meeting on Controversial Guardrails
A public meeting is planned Tuesday, October 21, at North Haven Village Hall regarding new guardrails on Long Beach Road that caused an outcry.
The meeting will include Suffolk County Legislator Jay Schneiderman, North Haven Mayor Jeff Sander and highway officials.
An online petition, started by artist April Gornick, calls for removing the guardrails.
“We believe the barriers compromise the beauty of the location and do not substantially improve safety on the roadway for pedestrians, cyclists, skaters, beach-goers and other road users,” the petition states. The petition has gained 604 supporters as of Friday morning.
The meeting begins October 21 at 5 p.m. North Haven Village Hall is located at 335 Ferry Road.
