Cops: Two Arrested for Robbery in Hampton Bays with Bat and Knife
Southampton Town police say a 29-year-old man was robbed at a residence in Hampton Bays Tuesday night by two men, one who struck him with a bat and a second man who held a knife to his head and throat.
At 7:47 p.m., police were called to Penny Lane in Hampton Bays, where the victim reported he was robbed of $600.
Police investigated and arrested Jairo Arteaga, 22, of Riverhead, and Jimi A. Valdez-Banegas, 21, of Hampton Bays. Both men were charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault and first-degree unlawful imprisonment, all felonies, as well as second-degree menacing, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both misdemeanors.
The victim, whom police did not name, was transported via Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance Corps, to a local hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Arteaga and Valdez-Banegas were processed at police headquarters and held for arraignment in the morning at Southampton Town Justice Court.
